The head coach of Conor McGregor, John Kavanagh, confirmed that the UFC will remove his athlete's featherweight belt if his next fight is held in another category.

McGregor won the title in December last year, when he knocked out José Aldo in a few seconds. Since then, the Irishman has had two fights in the octagon, but in neither of them did he defend his belt. Instead, he dueled with Nate diaz twice in fights valid for the welterweight division.
In a press conference reproduced on the Irish Mirror newspaper website, Kavanagh discussed the possibility of McGregor moving up to the lightweight category and challenging Eddie Alvarez for the belt. “If his next fight is for the lightweight belt, they [the UFC] will take the featherweight belt away from Conor. I think this is a fact. Conor will take comfort in the fact that two fighters he beat will compete for the vacant belt. It will probably be [Max] Holloway and Aldo. One he beat with just one leg, and another he knocked out in 13 seconds,” he commented.
According to the coach, McGregor's possible fight with Alvarez is still in the negotiation process. “It’s a great fight. It's a pretty simple fight for Conor, to be honest. Will he make it? I can say that we are in talks. This will be decided in the next few days,” he revealed.
