The North American of Croatian descent has plenty of motivation for the duel. In addition to being his first fight as champion, the fight will be held in his hometown. Therefore, he guarantees that he will not give Overeem a chance. “My mentality is I’m going to crush him. I'm not going to give up this belt. I worked too hard to earn it, and I'm not going to let anyone take it from me, especially in Cleveland. No way. I want that belt. And I won it and now I will keep it”, he assured, in an interview with the North American broadcaster “WKYC”.

Miocic recognizes that this is a dangerous fight, but hopes to dispatch his rival with less than five minutes of action. “He's a strong guy, so I need to pay attention to everything. He's a heavyweight and anything can happen. We use four-ounce gloves, so the night may be short. I plan on doing that to him: I'm going to have my arm raised and I'm going to walk out of there with the belt. I'm going to stop Overeem in the first round. I'll take him down. I know I can knock him out, and he will get knocked out. It's inevitable. I’ll touch him with my hands, he’ll go to sleep and we’ll have a fun night in Cleveland,” he added.

The fighter won the heavyweight belt in May, when he knocked out Fabricio Werdum still in the first round at UFC 198, in Curitiba (PR). Overeem, in turn, has won four consecutive victories, the last two being by knockout against former champions junior gypsy e Andrei Arlovski.
