Now it's official! After much speculation, the UFC already has a set date and location to return to Brazil. The event will be held on August 27th, at the HSBC Arena, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The organization's president, Dana White, confirmed the news at this Wednesday's press conference, at Palácio da Cidade, in the capital Fluminense.
In addition to Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, majority partner of the event, Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio, and the fighters were present at the press conference. Anderson Silva, José Aldo, Mauricio Shogun, Vitor belfort e Royce gracie.
“Brazil has 36 fighters in the UFC, three champions and we were planning a return to Brazil, as well as the expansion of the UFC brand,” said Dana White. The mayor, on the other hand, made a point of highlighting the Rio brand alongside the Ultimate name.
“For the first time in history, the name of the city is in the name of the event. The show will be called UFC Rio,” he said.
The edition of Ultimate in Brazil should be UFC-131 and there are no names announced on the card yet, but tickets for the show will go on sale in May next year.
