WEC-53 takes place today with belt disputes

Created in 2001, the WEC can be considered the largest organization involving athletes up to 70 kilos that has ever existed. This nine-year journey comes to an end tonight (16) with the WEC 53, which will feature two of the event's belts.

 

PUBLICITY:

For the lightweight title, the champion Ben henderson will face Anthony Pettis in the main fight of the night. Henderson is undefeated in ten fights, five of which were in the WEC. Pettis will be looking for his first career title after achieving a streak of three consecutive victories in the organization. The winner of this fight will have the opportunity to unify the WEC and UFC lightweight titles next year, as the organizations will unite from 2011 with the inclusion of bantamweight and featherweight fighters on the UFC roster.

 

PUBLICITY:

In another fight valid for a belt, Dominick Cruz will attempt to defend his bantamweight title against Scott jorgensen. The current champion is undefeated in his last seven fights, including the victory over Joseph Benavidez in his first title defense. Whoever wins this fight will automatically become the first UFC bantamweight champion.

 

PUBLICITY:

This edition of the WEC will feature the participation of two Brazilians on the preliminary card. Renan “Baron” seeks his second victory in the organization against Chris Cariaso, while, Yuri “Marajó” will make its debut at the event in front of Ricardo Lamas.
