With a short and unsuccessful stint in the UFC, Armenian Amar Suloev was arrested for involvement with the “Zirinov Gang”, a Russian criminal group, and accused of working as a hired killer. This week, however, the former fighter was released from prison on bail, but his reason for leaving was not good: Suloev was diagnosed with cancer.

In fact, according to the former athlete's defense lawyer, Suloev has an advanced stage (IV) tumor in his stomach and has already lost almost 25 kilos since the end of last year. Shaken, Suloev barely managed to stand up to hear the sentence in court. The episode also included a rare statement in favor of the defendant from the prosecution, who agreed that Amar “will hardly survive” and that he could leave prison, upon payment of bail in the amount of 3 million rubles, approximately R$ 157 thousand at the current price, separating his judgment from the other members of the gang.
At 39 years old, Amar Suloev had a record of 31 fights in professional MMA, with 24 wins and seven losses. With several important fights in his career, including events like UFC and Pride in his history, Suloev faced names like Chael Sonnen, Chuck Liddell, Murilo Bustamante, Paulo Filho, Dean Lister and Phil Baroni throughout his nine years in the sport.
