Former UFC fighter sentenced to five years in prison for attacking girlfriend

Heavyweight Lavar Johnson was sentenced to five years in prison by a California court (USA) this weekend. The former UFC and Bellator fighter was accused of domestic violence against his girlfriend. The case happened in August 2015.

According to the prosecution, Johnson, who was drunk, brutally beat his girlfriend. He threw the woman's head against the wall, in addition to hitting her with knees and punches on the floor.

The fighter's defense claimed that he is not aggressive and acted that way because he was under the influence of alcohol.

Johnson, took responsibility for the attack and says he is ashamed of the fact. He admitted the attack because his girlfriend had followed him with a GPS on her cell phone without his authorization.

Lawyers were hoping for a light sentence of a maximum of three years.

Lavar Johnson, 38, was a UFC fighter between 2012 and 2013, beating names like Joey Beltran and Patrick Barry. After two consecutive defeats, Stefan struve e Brendan Schaub, another case of doping, he was fired. His record in professional MMA is 18 wins and ten losses.
