A fight caught attention and caused controversy at the MMA Intense Championship Fighting 24 event, held in the city of Great Falls, Montana (USA), at the beginning of the month. Conall Powers, just 15 years old, faced an athlete eight years older, and, to the surprise of many, won in a landslide.

Powers faced Richard Kohlman, 23, in his first amateur MMA duel. Despite being a non-professional fight, the athletes did not wear extra protective equipment, such as helmets or shin guards.

In the opening seconds, Powers goes all out and takes down his opponent. Kohlman recovers, gets up and takes down the teenager, who reacts and reverses the position soon after. The technical knockout takes place 1min35s into the action, with several blows from the mount.

The fight faced no opposition, as the state of Montana does not have an athletic commission. Because it involves a minor, the fight would hardly be approved in places where MMA events need to be approved by public entities.

Even in the face of controversy, Matt Powers, Conall's father, has no problem allowing his son to fight MMA. “If he's in a fight, I know he's got a guy who's going to try to hurt him. But he's just a guy. It's not 11 people flying back and forth trying to hurt you. There are many other ways to get injured playing American football”, he analyzed, on the website “MMA Junkie”.
