At 36 years of age, Daniel Cormier reached the highest point of his career as an MMA fighter. In 2015, the North American won the vacant UFC middleweight belt and already made his first defense, last weekend, when he beat Alexander Gustafson in fierce combat. However, despite his relatively advanced age compared to his rivals, DC says he will only retire from fighting if he faces his only tormentor again, Jon Jones.

Jones, then light heavyweight champion, beat Cormier at the beginning of the year, in a fight surrounded by rivalry. However, “Bones” ended up being stripped of the title shortly after, when he was involved in a controversial traffic accident. Even with his old rival out of the picture, Cormier plans to complete a trilogy with him before even thinking about retirement.
“I know I have at least two fights I have to do before I retire. The next fight, when I beat Jones, and then a third fight with him. We’re still going to face each other twice, so until that happens, I’m not going anywhere”, commented the champion, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.
At the moment, Jones is still suspended by the UFC. Even though the fighter resolved his situation in court, receiving probation for 18 months, Ultimate stated that it will continue to examine the case with a law firm before making any decision about it.
