the fight of Wanderlei Silva against the Nevada Athletic Commission gained another chapter this Friday (11). The Brazilian filed an appeal with the Nevada Supreme Court willing to reverse the ban that the entity, responsible for regulating MMA in Las Vegas, applied to him in 2014. Silva was banned for life from MMA after evading a surprise anti-doping test.

The basis of Goodman's appeal is the same defense he presented at trial. Wand did not apply for a license to fight in Nevada, therefore, he would not be subject to state regulations. “This case requires the court to vindicate a basic proposition: an agency cannot expand its jurisdiction and take disciplinary action against someone it does not license,” the lawyer wrote in a summary obtained by the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

In turn, the commission alleges that although Wanderlei did not request a license to fight in Las Vegas, he had already given interviews to promote his fight against Chael Sonnen, therefore, he was assuming the condition to fight in the state.

Judgment

With the action of Wanderlei Silva, the Nevada Athletic Commission has until October 12 to submit its response to the appeal of Wanderlei Silva. From there, the Supreme Court will continue the process and may even request a trial to define its position.

At 38, Wanderlei Silva ended his career days before the Athletic Commission's decision on his eternal ban from MMA in Nevada. The “Crazy Dog” has a professional record of 35 wins, 12 losses, one draw and one unsuccessful fight.

Since hanging up his gloves, Wand has waged a true crusade against the UFC, through videos on his official channel on YouTube and statements in the press. In the most recent chapter of the feud, the Brazilian accused the organization of preventing him from working, after he was banned from participating in rival Bellator's recent windfall because he still has contractual obligations with Ultimate.
