In May, American Floyd Mayweather and Filipino Manny Pacquiao fought boxing's most anticipated fight in recent years. However, the 'fight of the century' belt, as the fight became known, was vacant on Monday night (06). Mayweather, who beat his rival in a unanimous decision by the judges, lost possession of the title for not paying 180 euros, around R$623, due to a punishment suffered in the duel.

“The World Boxing Organization (WBO) committee has no alternative other than to stop recognizing Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion and leave his title vacant for failing in complying with our regulations”, said the entity’s statement this Monday (06).
“The World Boxing Organization has the utmost respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and everything he has achieved in his glorious career. Mr. Mayweather has always agreed and understood that world championships have privileges and responsibilities and that WBO champion status is conditional on compliance with rules and regulations,” the statement added.
Mayweather millionaire
Floyd Mayweather's non-payment is quite strange, as the boxer is the highest paid sportsman in the world. Just to face Pacquiao in the fight of the century, he received an incredible US$200 million, approximately R$628 million at current prices.

New champion
With the removal of Mayweather's belt, the new welterweight champion should become Timothy Bradley Jr. The Californian defeated Jessie Vargas by unanimous decision on June 27th.
