A few moments after the fight between Chris Weidman e Vitor belfort, won by the North American in the first round, questions have already arisen about who the UFC middleweight champion's next opponent will be. And the president of the organization, Dana White, was uncertain about who is at the head of the line of challengers for the category belt.

In the first interview given shortly after UFC 187, to the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”, White: “It took me a while to get here [to the interview] because Luke Rockhold and approached the corridors. He said ‘don’t give this fight to [Ronaldo] Jacaré. Jacaré isn't going to go up and do what I'm going to do. You saw what I did to [Lyoto] Machida. That's exactly what I'm going to do with Weidman. Weidman and I are going to go after each other. It will be a striking fight. Let’s do this fight in Las Vegas’. Let's see what happens." Shortly afterwards, asked if in fact Rockhold is the number one challenger, the leader replied: “He is, he is.”
Soon after, White gave an interview to the official UFC website, and stated that Jacaré is also in the running for the title fight. “Jacaré’s manager told me right after the fight: ‘We are ready to Chris Weidman’. So it will probably be Jacaré vs. Weidman next. I don't know, anything can happen. Let's see how things unfold. Luke Rockhold is the number one challenger, but we’ll see what happens.”
Rockhold has four consecutive victories in the UFC, all by submission or knockout. Jacaré is also on a positive streak in the octagon, having won all five of his UFC fights.
