After his involvement in yet another scandal, this time following a traffic accident in the United States, Jon Jones ended up being punished by the UFC with the loss of the light heavyweight title of the largest MMA organization on the planet, which is now vacant until the dispute between Anthony Johnson e Daniel Cormier next Saturday (23). However, that doesn't mean it's the end of the line for the former champion. The guarantor is president Dana White, who, as a bonus, also confirmed that Jones will fight for the belt as soon as he returns to the octagon.

“He comes back and fights for the title. He didn't stay as long as Anderson Silva he had (10 belt defenses and more than 6 years), but he is the most dominant champion”, said the director, in an interview with the program “The Jim Rome Show”. “If you go by the names that he just went through in the 93-pound division, and he did it like a hot knife through butter, I mean, he's the guy. So, when he finally starts to put things in place and comes back, he will fight for the title”, he added.

Dana also commented on her decision to strip Jones of the title and assured that, at that point, it was an instant reaction. “We got to the point where, you know, he was hanging on by a thread, all it took was one more incident. And the level of this latest incident obviously made our decision easier”, he analyzed.

The boss also commented on the former champion's situation at the moment, as he awaits trial, and guaranteed that to accept him again he will need to show that he has changed. “Obviously he lost his title, he’s not fighting anymore and he has all these legal issues to deal with. Once he gets through this, he will end up with a criminal sentence or time in jail, or even a criminal sentence and time in jail. So, I don't know how things will turn out. Let's see how he gets through it and then we'll see where his head is at. How is he taking care of himself and this situation after all, you know? I need to see from him that he is doing the right thing,” he concluded.

Jones' controversial accident

Early in the morning of April 27th, Jon Jones crossed a red light on an avenue in Albuquerque and hit a car driven by a pregnant woman. The fighter fled the scene on foot, returning a little later to get money from the car, without helping the victim, who broke an arm.

Jones turned himself in to police a few days later and was released on bail. Due to the episode, the UFC decided to remove the belt from Jon Jones and suspend him indefinitely.
