Since the controversial doping case involving Anderson Silva came to light, a name frequently mentioned is that of the doctor Márcio Tannure. Director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA), Tannure worked for many years as “Spider’s” personal doctor, and was even accused by another fighter, Antonio Pezão, of being directly responsible for the former champion's doping. However, the doctor made a point of clarifying the facts and explained that he no longer works directly with the athletes, but rather at CABMMA.

In an interview with the “Combate” channel website, Tannure complained about the accusations, which he considers to be unfounded, and explained that, in his long experience in sports, he has not been involved in any major controversial case. “I have suffered, because people, the press mainly, make some insinuations, sometimes without knowing your story and your character. For example now, as happened with Anderson, people are trying to imply that I had something to do with it. I have worked at Flamengo for 13 years, at Flamengo alone I have participated in more than 2000 anti-doping tests, because the only sport here in Brazil that has an anti-doping test carried out by WADA (the World Anti-Doping Agency) in every match is football. I never had an affair. In the eight years that I worked with these athletes, they were tested athletes, champion athletes, and I never had a case. In the Brazilian team, every game, every athlete was tested, I participated in two U20 World Cups, in the Pre-Olympic with that generation of Neymar, and I never had a problem, so I don't know why there is a problem now and people They’re relating this to me as if I were a doctor who… I think that, if people were to take my past – same thing with Anderson – I don’t think it really adds up”, he argued.

Tannure explained that he stopped working as a personal doctor for fighters as soon as CABMMA was created, in 2013. “When I joined the athletic commission, by my choice, I stopped treating athletes, because I knew this would arise. I want to make this public, very clear, that today, if anyone proves that there is a UFC athlete that I deal with, I will resign from my position on the commission on the same day. I want to end this once and for all. But also, if someone accuses this and doesn't prove it, they will have to prove it in court. This is something I want to make very clear.”

In the UFC, Tannure was involved in a case of controversy with Pezão, who was caught in an anti-doping test in 2013 with high doses of testosterone. At the time, the fighter accused Tannure of having made a mistake in prescribing testosterone replacement treatment (TRT). The doctor, however, stated that the case is already part of the past.

“That's it, what I had to say was already said at that time, it already generated a lot of wear and tear. This is already a turning point for me and for him too. I don't have the slightest grudge or resentment, I wish him success and I continue to do so. What had to be said has already been said and clarified, at least on my part. I would not like to return to this subject, which for me is already dead. Let's go on. I don't have the slightest regret. I root for him and for all Brazilians. I’ll definitely root for him too”, he concluded.
