About to make his eighth belt defense, when he faces Daniel Cormier at UFC 182, Jon Jones set goals for his career that go beyond simply maintaining the title. The American, king of the light heavyweight division since 2011, wants more and more of his fights to consolidate him as one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA.

“I have big dreams, man. My dream is simply to be the greatest of all. Why not? I think my confidence offends a lot of people, but I think they should be inspired by it instead of finding it offensive. Why wouldn't I want to be the greatest?” reflected the champion, during open training sessions held in preparation for UFC 182.

Despite considering that he is already on the path to achieving his goal, Jones still sees two former UFC champions ahead of him. “I believe I'm one of the best fighters to ever play in this sport, because of my history and because I'm one of the youngest to do it. But I wouldn't say I'm the best. I believe that Anderson [Silva] and Georges [St. Pierre] did incredible things and are still the guys to look up to,” he pointed out. “But I want to be the best. I want to be the best champion of all time – not just an MMA fighter, but a champion. There are still a lot of champions that are way ahead of me, but as long as I keep that kind of direction in my mind, I want to join that group.”

The fight between Jones and Cormier will be the main attraction of the first UFC event in 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas (USA), this Saturday (3). It will be the eighth title defense for Jones, who, since winning the title in 2011, has gone through Quinton jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad evans, Vitor belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafson e Glover Teixeira. Cormier has scored two victories since moving to light heavyweight, defeating Patrick Cummins and Dan Henderson. Before, still in the heavyweight division, DC stood out with victories over Antonio Pezão, Josh Barnett, Frank mir e Roy Nelson.
