Earlier this year, Nate diaz was the center of a huge controversy, after UFC president Dana White revealed that the lightweight refused to face the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov. Months later, Diaz was again involved in a similar story. According to businessman Alex Davis, Davis's younger brother Nick Diaz rejected a proposal to face the Brazilian Edson Barboza.

“It was for Edson Barboza fight against the Nate diaz, but Nate didn't accept the fight. We don't choose opponents now. We have to beat anyone they put in front of us. Whatever they do, we will fight and win, we won’t challenge this guy or that guy”, said the agent, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
Despite recognizing that Nate diaz would be a good opponent for Barboza, Davis was satisfied with the duel against Bobby Green, won by the Brazilian recently. “There’s this fight between the Rafael dos Anjos and the Nate diaz and other good fights now too. So, I think Barboza has to fight the winner of one of them next. I think Diaz would be an interesting fight to promote Edson in the media, because he (Barboza) doesn't talk much. So a fight with the Nate diaz would be good in this sense, but Bobby Green It was also a great fight”, he assessed.
At 28, Edson Barboza has a professional record of 15 wins and just two losses. Currently sixth in the lightweight rankings, Edson is coming off two consecutive victories, over Evan dunham e Bobby Green. The Brazilian gained fame in early 2012 after knocking out the Brit Terry emo with a spectacular high kick, which ended up being awarded “Knockout of the Year” at the World MMA Awards, the “Oscar of MMA”.
