After anti-doping controversy, Cung Le asks to be released by UFC

Vietnamese said that his manager is already negotiating termination and suggested a move to Bellator in the future

During the second half of 2014, Cung le was involved in a major controversy after presenting himself to fight against Michael Bisping in suspicious physical shape, being caught in the anti-doping test and soon after having the result reviewed and your suspension annulled. After the turmoil, the 42-year-old veteran made a drastic decision and has already decided what he wants for his future: breaking his current relationship with the UFC.

“I prefer not to be part of the UFC anymore. I don’t want to strive for something that I no longer believe in,” declared the Vietnamese naturalized American in an interview with journalist Josh Gross’ podcast. The fighter also revealed that he has already asked his manager to mediate negotiations for an amicable termination of his current relationship with the organization.

After being suspended for having high levels of growth hormone, Cung le was suspended for nine months by the UFC, but the sentence was revoked after the organization admitted that the amount measured in itself would not be sufficient proof of doping. No longer wanting to work for the UFC due to what happened, Le pointed out his likely fate. “If I were to fight somewhere, it would be with Scott Coker (former CEO of Strikeforce and current president of Bellator). I would never fight for the UFC after what happened,” he said.

At 42, Cung le has a professional record of nine wins and three losses. A kickboxing specialist, Le won all 17 of his fights in the sport. In MMA, the Vietnamese-born American was Strikeforce middleweight champion, after beating Frank Shamrock in 2008.
