The UFC is about to explore another big market. According to the organization's global director, Garry Cook, Ultimate is on the verge of closing a television deal in Russia that will broadcast the fights to millions of people in the country.

Cook did not detail when exactly the agreement will come into force, but expressed optimism with the brand's plans. “We are about to announce a television deal in Russia that will reach 55 million households. We have never done an event in Russia. We have to create content for the United States that is relevant to all other markets, creating local heroes and national fame. It's basically a fight, with a winner and a loser. There is nothing more dramatic than that. And that sells, regardless of where you are on the planet,” he explained, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

Plans may also include an event in the country in 2015, although this has not been fully confirmed. “We will be on television in Russia. One time or another we will hold an event there, but we don’t know if it will be next year”, he said.

Currently, the country's biggest UFC star is Khabib Nurmagomedov. The undefeated fighter from Dagestan has six victories inside the Octagon and is second among the lightweight division.
