For many years there has been speculation about a fight between Anderson Silva and multi-time boxing world champion Roy Jones Jr. However, even with both athletes expressing their desire to make the fight happen, the idea never got off the ground, and, as time passed, it became increasingly unlikely for the actual combat to take place.

Jones Jr, now 45 years old, considers that the biggest obstacle to making the idea come to fruition is the UFC itself – and he regrets the fact that the Brazilian is unable to fulfill his dream of fighting against his boxing idol. “Unfortunately for him, the UFC won't let him fulfill his dream of getting in the ring and sharing it with the great Roy Jones Jr. That's a shame. It's a shame, because it would be a night that people from both worlds [MMA and boxing] would admire, would love to see. People would love to see two legends in the ring at least once. Even though it's boxing, we could share the ring because he knows how to box. He’s a professional fighter, and, like me, he’s a guy who likes to entertain,” said Jones, in an interview with “The MMA Fight Corner” podcast.

Even though he challenged and was challenged by Anderson, Jones made a point of clarifying that his relationship with the Brazilian is very good. In fact, the boxing legend praised the former UFC champion. “Anderson Silva He is one of the best human beings I have ever met. He is an incredible friend, a wonderful person. A person who, like me, tries to do something different when he is successful at something. We want to see how far we can get. We want to try to go to heaven to see if the sky is the limit,” he commented. “I'm very convinced that the UFC won't let him do that. But as a fighter, I think he's phenomenal, probably one of the best UFC fighters to ever walk the planet.”
