Even retired from MMA, Wanderlei Silva has seen his name involved in some speculation regarding possible future fights. The Brazilian veteran was linked to a possible fight with Chael Sonnen, something already discarded by the North American; Additionally, former UFC Phil Baroni raised the possibility of facing Wand at a year-end event in Japan.

However, Wanderlei would have some legal obstacles in being able to carry out such fights since, despite being retired and with a lifetime ban from the Nevada Athletic Commission, he still has a current contract with the UFC. Faced with such a scenario, the Brazilian fired at his former bosses for allegedly not being able to fight outside of Ultimate. “Slavery now? What do you mean I can't work then, Dana? You don't rule me, I fight wherever I want! What’s yours is saved, that’s enough!”, criticized the Brazilian, on his Twitter account.
