Amidst controversies with Sean Strickland e Colby covington, who in recent days they attacked the family – focusing on the wife – of Ian Gary, the Irishman ended up being cut from the UFC 296. The actions of professional colleagues, however, did not determine the cancellation of the commitment against Vincent Luque. According to Dana White, president of Ultimate, the welterweight (up to 77,1kg) contracted pneumonia on the eve of the show, and is not fit to compete.

“I know there is speculation that the fight between Ian Gary e Vincent Luque it's canceled. And truth. Ian Gary It started with the flu that ended up turning into pneumonia. So, this fight is cancelled. It’s true,” said White, in his profile on Instagram.

The clash between the Brazilian and the undefeated Irishman would dictate the tone of the main card. The fight would pit two welterweight standouts face to face.

With Ian's departure, Vicente also leaves the event. The expectation is that the clash will be rescheduled for 2024.
