protagonist of UFC 296, which takes place this Saturday (16), the challenger for the welterweight belt (under 77,1kg) Colby covington attacked another highlight of the card: the Irishman Ian Gary. The North American did not hold back on criticism and raised the prospect of division, which locked Instagram comments, claiming he and his family were threatened. The statement was made in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

“All I’m going to say about Ian is that I’ve received death threats, attacks, people wanted to kill me in Brazil. I never turned off my social media. I never turned off my comments. Look at that little Ian Gary. He’s turning off his (Instagram) comments like a little boy,” Colby said.

Even with Ian Gary being undefeated in professional MMA, Colby minimized the Irishman's record but said he intends to focus on the title fight ahead.

“He’s not tough. He's not the best fighter in the division. The guy is a joke. He's a little boy, so I don't really have anything to say to him. You will see in the press conference, but my business and my attention are focused on 'Leon Scott' and that is all that matters to me now”, concluded the former challenger.

No UFC 296, Covington will fight again for the welterweight belt, now against another champion: the Englishman Leon edwards. Still on the main card, Ian Gary will measure forces against the experienced Brazilian Vincent Luque.
