Jon Jones suffers injury and postpones fight against Daniel Cormier until January

UFC champion injured knee and ankle; UFC 178 main fight will be Demetrious Johnson x Chris Cariaso

The long-awaited fight between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier will have to be postponed. On Tuesday night (12), the UFC announced that the light heavyweight champion suffered an injury at the beginning of the week, forcing the fight to be transferred to event number 182, on January 3rd.

According to the North American website “MMA Fighting”, Jones tore the meniscus in his left knee, in addition to twisting his ankle during wrestling training. It is not yet known whether the fighter will require surgery.

Originally, the fight between Jones and Cormier was scheduled for UFC 178, on September 27th, surrounded by expectations after the fight between the two fighters at a press conference. Now the duel between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, valid for the flyweight belt and initially scheduled for UFC 177, was transferred to the following edition, taking over the main fight of the night.

This will be the eighth title defense by Jones, UFC light heavyweight champion since 2011. His original opponent would be Alexander Gustafson, who left the fight after injuring his knee.
