Conor McGregor runs over Diego Brandão and says: 'I'm the best featherweight in the world'

In the main fight of UFC Fight Night 46, in Ireland, a local fighter took no notice of the Brazilian and won by technical knockout

The featherweight Conor McGregor It delighted the audience present at the O2 Arena, in Dublin, Ireland. In the main fight of UFC Fight Night 46, an event held this Saturday afternoon (19), the ‘Notório’, as he is known, dominated the Brazilian Diego Brandao and took the win via technical knockout in the first round. After the victory, McGregor showed why he can be considered the replacement for Chael Sonnen in terms of provocation. ‘I’m the best featherweight in the world. You can put anyone here and I’ll win’, he said.

the duel between Conor McGregor e Diego Brandao was surrounded by provocations from both sides. The athletes were restrained at the weigh-in so that the fight would not take place the day before. But as soon as the fight started, the Irishman showed that he wasn't messing around.

Away from the Octagon a year ago due to injury,  McGregor showed that he didn't feel the rhythm of the fight and went on the attack. When Diego tried to greet his rival with a touch of gloves, he was caught with a round kick. From then on, Conor landed the best boxing punches, defended a takedown attempt by the Brazilian and even managed to throw Diego onto his back.

When the fight resumed on its feet, Conor McGregor came to end the dispute. After suffering a blow to his waist, Diego felt it and was cornered against the bars. The Irishman went on the attack until he reached the technical knockout.

The result marked the 14th victory of Conor McGregor, which comes from 11 consecutive victories.

Icelandic wins another

In the second most important fight of the night, Icelandic Gunnar Nelson proved that he deserves to establish himself in the top-10 of the welterweight division. In a safe fight, the European fighter gave North American Zak Cummings no chance. After dominating the first round, controlling the distance very well, Nelson came to the second round to finish the fight. After taking the fight to the ground, he got to the back and secured a tight rear-naked choke.

Submissions and knockouts shake up the preliminary card

Those who arrived early at the O2 Arena can watch lively fights on the show's preliminary card. With six fights in the opening program, two ended with submissions and two with knockouts.

Cathal Pendred and Paddy Holohan grabbed Mike King's Josh Sampo's necks with nice chokes. Already Ilir Latifi e Nikita Krylov beat Chris Dempsey and Cody Donovan, respectively, by TKO.
