Last weekend, another bomb dropped in the case Chael Sonnen. After numerous comings and goings and a doping episode that removed him from the UFC 175 card, which takes place on July 5th, the North American was once again caught using illegal substances in a surprise exam. Faced with the new doping episode involving Sonnen, the Ultimate organization released an official statement in which it stated that it was already aware that the TUF Brasil 3 coach had failed the new test.

"Concerning Chael Sonnen, we were aware that a second random test had been carried out earlier this month and resulted in a positive test for new banned substances. Chael will have the opportunity to come face-to-face with the Nevada Athletic Commission next month, and in a statement released to the media, he promised to cooperate. Our position on the matter remains the same. We support the Commission and will continue to work to ensure that all UFC athletes operate free of any performance-enhancing drugs and prohibited substances”, says the organization’s statement, reproduced by the “MMA Fighting” website.

Already cut from UFC 175 and officially retired from MMA, Chael Sonnen was caught in his second doping test in less than a month due to the use of GH, the growth hormone, and erythropoietin. Growth hormone is an anabolic widely used by bodybuilders. While erythropoietin works to increase the production of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the muscles, thus increasing resistance and vigor. In the first positive test, the fighter had been caught taking HCG, anastrozole and clomiphene, which he justified using to combat sexual impotence resulting from hypogonadism.
