Despite concerns about the conditions in which athletes undergoing Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT) would present themselves, two of the main names linked to the controversial hormone replacement were released to fight in Las Vegas by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the first entity to announce the veto to training. The Commission announced that Chael Sonnen e Dan Henderson had their licenses to fight approved unanimously.
Dan Henderson faces Daniel Cormier in less than two weeks, on May 24th. The fight is the co-main fight of UFC 173, which features a bantamweight belt dispute between Renan Barao e TJ Dillashaw as the main fight. Sonnen, on the other hand, faces his disaffection Wanderlei Silva on July 5th, at UFC 175. The fight between the Brazilian and the North American marks the long-awaited duel between the coaches of the third edition of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.
Since February this year, TRT has been banned from MMA. The decision was taken by the Nevada Athletic Commission, the sport's main regulatory body, and followed by other main corresponding entities, such as the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission. The last athlete to enter the octagon in the midst of hormone replacement treatment was precisely Dan Henderson, in the fight against Mauritius Shogun in March. The exception was justified by the fact that the veteran had previously obtained his release to work in Natal (RN) with CABMMA.
