Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva is arguably the most popular MMA fighter in Brazil. Spider's notoriety ended up culminating in a moment that was as fun as it was unusual on the social network Instagram. On her profile, a fan published a photo with the featherweight champion, but reported in the caption that she had met Anderson. The confusion did not go unnoticed by another big name in the sport in the country, Wanderlei Silva, who took the opportunity to joke about the situation.
“It’s not easy for anyone to have Anderson’s popularity (laughs), isn’t it? José Aldo? I go through this too. Let's follow our great champion, José Aldo. Very good people. To get better, he just needs to teach me how to play football, because they say he hits the ball. A hug, friend!” Wand wrote on his social networks. The publication amused other UFC fighters, such as Mauritius Shogun, and even yielded a small response from Aldo himself. “What the hell, president,” said the featherweight champion.
Despite the fan's mistake, José Aldo e Anderson Silva have little in common. Aldo, 27 years old, has a record of 24 wins and just one loss. The man from Manaus is the only champion of the featherweight category (up to 66 kg) in UFC history. Already Anderson Silva, 39 years old, has a record of 33 wins and six losses. Born in São Paulo (SP), but raised in Curitiba (PR), Anderson was middleweight champion between October 2006 and July 2013. Considered by many to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Spider has the record for defenses consecutive belts in Ultimate, with ten.
