At the “World MMA Awards”, the biggest MMA award, he gave the logic. After the two victories over Anderson Silva, in July and December last year, the North American Chris Weidman won the award for best fighter of 2013. In the knockouts awards, there were no surprises either. The high kick of Vitor belfort em Luke Rockhold, at the UFC in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), was considered the best of the year.
Weidman and Vitor, opponents in the fight for the middleweight belt at UFC 173, on May 24, fought a real private battle for the prize, offered by the North American magazine “Fighters Only”. To win the award for best fighter, the champion beat Belfort, who was also competing in the category. The Rio native's knockout over Rockhold had to overcome the North American's punch in Anderson Silva, at UFC 162, which shocked the MMA world.
Other highlights of the awards were Travis Browne, who won in the “Revelation of the Year” and “Comeback of the Year” categories, and the Team Alpha Male association. In addition to being named the best gym of 2013, Team Alpha Male saw its head coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig crowned the best of the year and Urijah faber, one of the main names on the team, won the award for best submission, with his rear naked choke on Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157.
