Matt Serra, former MMA fighter and currently one of the coaches of Chris Weidman, trust that your pupil will end the good phase of Vitor belfort and remain the UFC middleweight champion.
After hitting Anderson Silva twice, Weidman will defend his second belt on May 24, in Las Vegas, in the United States. Belfort has been strong with his recent performances, coming off three consecutive knockout victories via kicks.
In an interview with the North American website Sherdog, Serra showed confidence in the fight, saying that Weidman has all the necessary tools to overcome the Brazilian. “We’ll see what happens, but he has the ability to submit or knock out Vitor. He can beat you in striking and can also hurt you with strikes on the ground. In other words, he has multiple options,” he commented. “Chris is younger, has incredible skills. Of course, anyone can be surprised, but I feel good about this fight. It will definitely be Chris’s night.”
Serra, a former UFC welterweight champion, doesn't underestimate Belfort's abilities, but sees Weidman capable of resisting the Brazilian's momentum. “He [Belfort] can hurt anyone at the beginning of a fight – not only at the beginning, but he is usually more dangerous in the initial phases of the fight. He is very explosive with his kicks and punches. But I believe Chris will break his momentum and end the fight,” he analyzed.
The fight between Belfort and Weidman will be the main attraction of UFC 173. In the second most important fight of the night, Wanderlei Silva will make the long-awaited duel with Chael Sonnen.
