Glover wants to knock out Jon Jones in the first round, but admits: 'It will be a difficult fight”

Brazilian also analyzed the champion's last fight and stated that he is betting on his wrestling and boxing to win the belt

After confirming the date of your duel against the champion Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight belt, the Brazilian Glover Teixeira The fight is already beginning to be planned, announced as the main fight of UFC 172, on April 26th. In an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website, Glover stated that the ideal scenario would be a knockout in the first round in his favor, but admitted that the fight should be difficult and could go on for five rounds.

“In a perfect scenario, I will win by knockout in the first round. But I believe it will be a difficult fight. Jon Jones He's an excellent fighter. I'll be ready for five rounds. I was ready for five rounds against Bader and I'll be ready now and then we'll see who will leave the cage as champion”, said Teixeira.

Glover also analyzed Jones' last fight, against Alexander Gustafson. The Brazilian praised the Swede's performance, but disagreed with part of the public opinion, which saw the champion's defeat in the duel. “I expected Gustafsson to have the advantage on his feet, but I also expected Jones to be smart and take the fight to the ground. He tried, but Gustafsson defended his takedowns very well. Still, when the fight was over, I thought Jon had won. Then I reviewed it and scored it for Jones again,” he revealed.

For the duel on April 26th, Glover is betting on boxing and wrestling, two trademarks in his game, to surprise the champion and number one in the UFC weight-for-pound rankings. “We always see holes in every fight, but the last one showed more. However, I can't train focused on that. I have to believe in my boxing and wrestling to impose my game. He is a super champion and will come back stronger after studying his own weaknesses”, he concluded.

At 34, Glover Teixeira has a record of 22 wins and just two defeats. The Brazilian is undefeated since March 2005, when he was defeated by Ed Herman in the main fight of the SportFight 9 event. Jon Jones, in turn, has no less impressive record than Glover's. In 20 fights as a professional, the American won 19 victories and suffered only one controversial defeat, due to disqualification after applying illegal elbows.
