Ultimate celebrates its 20th anniversary, tonight (16), with the organization's greatest hegemony at stake. The Canadian Georges St Pierre puts the welterweight belt on the line for the ninth time against the North American John hendricks. The duel will be the main attraction of UFC 167, an event to be held in Las Vegas, in the United States.
Champion since 2008, GSP has dominated the division since taking the title from Matt Serra. The Canadian approaches the impressive streak of Anderson Silva, record holder with 10 consecutive belt defenses. “I'm in the best shape of my life. So don’t blink”, he said.
To challenge the champion, the UFC could not have chosen a more qualified opponent. John hendricks, who comes from six consecutive victories, is based on wrestling, but has frightening knockout power. The American has already knocked down names like Martin Kampmann and Jon Fitch before the first minute of the fight.
“I will be there against another guy who will want to demolish me and I also want to do some things, but nothing scares me, all this brings me is fun. Each one has their own style, and they are civilized people, guys who have families, I can get in there and release the energy. I hope he's shaking a little and I can hit him. I have confidence in my strikes”, declared the challenger.
Sonnen x Rashad and Brazil on the preliminary card
In the second most important fight of the night, a duel between two light heavyweights. Before coming to Brazil to record the third edition of TUF, Chael Sonnen will have his last commitment on North American soil. He looks at his friend Rashad evans, which comes from victory against Dan Henderson at UFC 161.
In another duel awaited by the Brazilian public, Thales leites he will have his second fight after his return to Ultimate. The Nova União middleweight, Brazil's only representative at the 20th anniversary event, faces Ed Herman.
