With a plan to make history in MMA, Alexander Volkanovsky has his sights set on the lightweight division. Absolute at featherweight (up to 65,7kg.), the champion admits that he will seek to become the new double Ultimate champion and has his sights set on a confrontation against Charles of the Bronx. In a press conference, the fighter praised the Brazilian, but reinforced his desire to face the star of the under-70,3kg division.

“Oliveira (From the Bronx) is a dangerous fighter, he puts on exciting fights. Obviously, he showed that he can be beaten. Charles was almost defeated in the last few performances. I dream big. If I dream big, I will give others the opportunity to do the same with me. That’s how we do it,” said Volkanovski.

Confident that he could do well in an eventual challenge against the former lightweight champion, Alexander understands that a fight against Charles would be historic. The athlete then reinforces his ambition to test himself against the Tupiniquim.

“It would be an epic fight, but I definitely believe I have what it takes to become a double UFC champion,” he concluded.

Even with the attention focused on Charles, Volkanovski still doesn't know if he will qualify for a fight against the Brazilian for the vacant lightweight belt. At the UFC 274, the São Paulo native ended up losing the title for not having made weight for the clash against Justin gaethje.

After the drama in the compromise with the scales, Do Bronx put on a real show in the clash against Gaethje and qualified to compete for the group's vacant throne. Tupiniquim, however, still does not have a date or opponent to try to regain the 'crown'.
