Bellator star and former challenger for the organization's middleweight belt, Melvin Manhoef went through a risky situation a few days ago in Landsmeer, in the Netherlands. An MMA veteran, the fighter led a car chase, detained three people and prevented what was supposedly an attempted robbery at his home. In an interview with 'MMA fighting', the athlete explained that he received a call from neighbors, who suspected individuals close to the house.

“I threw my car in front of them and stared,” Manhoef said. “They saw me, looked at me and then left. After that, I went after them, chased them and hit the back of them (the car), and I couldn't stop them, because they were going too fast. So I went to the side and hit the side. They went to the side of the road, and the car was kind of skidding, and we crashed. The car stopped in the middle of the road, on its side,” Melvin narrated.

After chasing the suspects along the road, the MMA veteran described what happened next. With the individuals unable to leave the location, the fighter managed to detain the would-be thieves.

“I went out and said 'come here', because they had their 'thief things' to get into the house. I broke the window (of the suspects' car) and pulled the guy out. I opened the door and placed him on the floor. I was screaming, going crazy. Everyone got on their hands and knees on the floor. Some people helped, left their homes and called 911 (contact to call the police). Within a few minutes, they (the police) were there,” he said.

The pivot of what would be a great action movie scene, Manhoef explained why he took the drastic action. The veteran even stated that he was ready to accept any legal punishment related to the car chase.

“If they were to invade, and my wife was there, they would tie up my wife or my son, and I could not forgive myself. My instinct was, 'you can't come near my family.' That's like my number one rule. Don't touch my family. If you do this, you will pay. (…) If I have to face any charges, what can I do? I made a mistake, because I crashed my car, but I crashed it with a purpose. I knew they were in my house”, he concluded.

Professional in MMA since 1995, Melvin has 50 fights in the sport. In Bellator since 2014, the fighter competed for the middleweight belt on two occasions, both in 2016, against Raphael Carvalho, but did not win the belt.

In 2020, the fighter was responsible for 'welcoming' Corey anderson in the company and ended up badly knocked out. The 45-year-old fighter is currently preparing for another big challenge in the light heavyweight division. On May 6, the combatant faces Yoel romero, who is looking for his first triumph in the company.
