Star in UFC 263, which takes place on April 9, Alexander Volkanovsky will be keeping an eye on one of the fights that precede his title defense on the show. Curious about the meeting between Gilbert Durinho e Khamzat Shimaev, the featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) gave his opinion on the result. The Australian waits to find out if the Swede will face the biggest challenge of his MMA career.

“Obviously, he (Chimaev) has a lot of hype. People who don't know the sport are believing that he will win, but those who really understand the sport think: 'Burns (Gilbert) in ground fighting is world class'. They will be surprised if Chimaev enters the Octagon and simply annihilates. I believe this is what will happen. I think Chimaev is at that level. He will arrive and show a dominant performance, which is unbelievable against someone like Burns (Gilbert)”, said Volkanovski, in an interview with James Lynch.
Candidate to become a new superstar in the UFC, Khamzat received the opportunity to face a prominent welterweight (under 77kg) after four great performances in the company. In all his commitments with the Ultimate gloves, the Swede had a dominant performance and overcame his opponents in the fast lane, almost without being touched.
Undefeated in mixed martial arts, Chimaev could qualify for a title fight in his next fight. Currently, Durinho is second in the division led by Kamaru Usman.
Responsible for trying to 'spoil the party' for Khamzat, Gilbert could also be 'gifted' if he wins on April 9th. The Niteroi native can regain his status as challenger to the category's throne, if he makes his big bet for the company's future.
