During the week leading up to last Saturday's UFC Fight Night 26, several fights were considered involving Chael Sonnen, Vitor belfort, Wanderlei Silva e Lyoto Machida. The North American even joked that I would beat them all in the same night. But, of all the challenges proposed, the one that made the least sense was aborted by Dana White.
During a chat with the press after UFC Fight Night 26, the UFC president said he had given up on confronting Lyoto Machida com Nick Diaz, who is retired. White even denied that Diaz had rejected the proposal.
“Diaz didn’t deny (facing Machida). There are other things going on with Diaz. That was a bad idea, this Diaz-Machida thing. I'm going to throw Joe Silva under the bus again. That was Joe Silva's idea. It was a bad idea.”
The curious thing was that Dana White himself had said that the invitation to face Machida was made by the president himself to the retired welterweight.
“I spoke to (Nick) Diaz today (the 15th), and made him an offer, so we'll see what happens. He was talking about going to (the up to) 84 kg category. (Lyoto) Machida has been talking about moving to middleweight. So, we wanted to see if he wants to fight Machida at middleweight.”
