Former challenger for the UFC middleweight (up to 83,9 kg) and light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) belts, Chael Sonnen faces 11 charges of assault due to a fight in a Las Vegas hotel that occurred in December 2021. The information was released by the North American website “TMZ Sports”.

According to court records, prosecutors charged the former wrestler last week with felonious assault by strangulation and 10 other lesser counts of assault. In the documents, authorities accuse Sonnen of assaulting six people, including a woman, during a fight at a Las Vegas hotel on December 18.

PUBLICITY:

The former fighter allegedly choked a man, punched and/or attacked a woman and punched and/or kneed other people in the head and face during the incident. Sonnen was removed from the scene in handcuffs by local police.

Initially, Chael Sonnen had received five charges for the alleged fight, but the case was “dismissed by the court without prejudice,” meaning it could be refiled at a later date.

Currently 44 years old, Chael Sonnen retired from professional MMA in 2019. Throughout his career, the American collected victories over names like Michael Bisping, Mauritius Shogun, Wanderlei Silva e Rampage Jackson, in addition to the famous rivalry against Anderson Silva. After hanging up his gloves, Sonnen became one of the main UFC analysts in the United States.
