The North American's first reaction Urijah faber when I knew I would face Iuri Marajó It was astonishment because he didn't know his opponent. However, upon better analyzing the Brazilian bantamweight's history, Faber changed his opinion and started to consider it “an honor” to face someone like Marajó.
“First of all, his record is better than mine,” Faber said of Marajó to MMAjunkie. “His record is 28-4, he fought in heavier divisions like lightweight and featherweight, he had two dominant fights as a bantamweight. I’m honored to fight a guy like him.”
Marajó has already had four fights for the UFC, but all on Brazilian territory. For this reason, he still does not have the same recognition from the North American public as Faber's last opponents. Despite this, Urijah is excited about the fight.
“I wish he got more recognition, but you can't knock the guy's accomplishments and be like, 'Oh, he doesn't deserve to fight me. Of course he deserves to fight me and I deserve to fight him. This is one of the top guys in the world and I love fights like this.”
Marajó will face the “California Kid” in card main event of UFC Fight Night 26, which will be held next Saturday, August 17th, in Boston, United States. The event will feature a duel between Mauricio Shogun e Chael Sonnen as the main fight.
