Sonnen highlights Masvidal's courage in facing Covington, but warns of possible 'disaster' in his career

Former Ultimate star and now MMA commentator, Chael Sonnen has an opinion about the fight between Jorge masvidal e Colby covington, which happens in the UFC 272, on March 5th. For the company's 'former villain', the board was right to confirm the clash, but does not see a good scenario for 'Jesus das Ruas'.

“These guys have a problem and are going to put everything on the line (…) They have resources for engagement, right? Could not be better. To be fair, I have to preach respect to Masvidal, because it is a fight to end his career (in case of defeat). It’s at that level,” Sonnen said.

For the former rival of Anderson Silva, Jorge could see his credibility with the organization slipping through his fingers, if he is surpassed by his former friend and, today, biggest opponent. So, Chael explained his position.

“There will be a lot of attention and focus. Jorge, who is the second biggest star in combat sports at the moment, is coming off two consecutive defeats. (…) If he climbs into the Octagon, gets knocked down and crushed for 25 minutes, it will be a huge loss of shine for the second biggest star in the UFC, the 'Thickest', Jorge masvidal. It's a big contract and Jorge didn't hesitate to sign it. I respect that,” he signed off.

Standouts in the UFC welterweight (up to 77kg), Masvidal and Covington had a friendship for years. Training partners at American Top Team, the fighters even lived together. The relationship, however, became complicated after Colby's problems with members of ATT, which culminated in the departure of 'Chaos' and subsequent rivalry.
