Anderson Silva will no longer display the Corinthians brand during their UFC fights. The middleweight champion, an admitted Corinthians fan, did not reach an agreement with the São Paulo club to renew his contract, which had ended on May 31st.
Corinthians announced the agreement with Spider in 2011, shortly before the first edition of UFC Rio. During the partnership with his favorite club, Anderson successfully defended his belt against Yushin Okami e Chael Sonnen and had a valid fight in the light heavyweight category against Stephan bonnar – also won by the Brazilian.
Given the end of the contract with the athlete, Corinthians released a note on its official website, thanking the champion. Read below:
“On May 31st, the athlete’s contract was terminated Anderson Silva with Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. Since then, the club has approached the fighter to renew the contract, but its legal representatives have informed that, for now, there is no interest in continuing to work together.
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista thanks you Anderson Silva for the time he defended the black and white shirt with dedication and talent in the octagons of the UFC, the main MMA competition on the planet, and leaves the doors open for his return.
Even without being printed on his uniform in the next fight, the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista shield will forever be embedded in the heart of the multi-champion and eternal Corinthian. Anderson Silva. "
