Inserted in the same weight category as Khamzat Shimaev, Colby covington doesn't understand the commotion around the Swede, who shines in the UFC. Challenger for the welterweight belt (up to 77kg), the North American once again provoked and questioned the fighter's talent. In a controversial statement, the fighter mocked the resistance of the promise, which experienced moments of tension with the consequences of Covid-19.

“He needs a lot more work than winning three fights in the UFC. You elevate these guys too soon, but let's not forget that he was brought down by a 'little flu”, said Covington, in a press conference for the UFC 268, and minimizing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Infected with the coronavirus in December 2020, Khamzat lived a true nightmare. After not recovering well from the illness, the 27-year-old even publicly announced his early retirement, as he was unable to perform in training. Chimaev's hasty attitude was also the subject of Colby's 'jokes'.

“He was ready to retire because of a common cold. There is a 99.9% survival rate. He was ready to give up and retire. He doesn't want to face me. He has less than a 99,9% chance against me,” he concluded.

Unable to train at a high level for months, Chimaev ended up going through the biggest hiatus in his professional MMA career. Used to staying active in competitions, the athlete managed to return to the Octagon just over a year after his last performance.

On the way back, however, Khamzat put on a show. Without even being touched, the Swede ran over li jingliang with a submission in the first round.
