days before Fedor Emelianenko return to the circular cage and knock out Tim Johnson in the main fight of Bellator 269, Daniel Cormier became involved in controversy over stating that the Russian heavyweight 'would have been average at best' if he had fought in the UFC between 2009 and 2011, when he actually negotiated with Ultimate. On his personal YouTube channel, DC made a point of talking about the subject again to reinforce his respect for the Russian legend and clarify that he was referring to a specific time window.

“Guys, let's talk about this. I absolutely love Fedor. During the week I had this conversation on my program 'Debate DC'. We discussed whether Fedor could have dominated the UFC the way he did in Pride and every other organization he fought in before. I said no, but in a specific period of time. I didn't say that Fedor from 2005, 2004, 2006, 2007 or 2008 couldn't do it. I did not say that. I said in the window between 2009 and 2012, I don't think he would be as good as he was before,” Cormier explained.

Daniel Cormier he said he was amazed at the proportions of his comment and assured that he was rooting for Fedor Emelianenko until today.

“I don’t understand how this made so many people angry. It was proven, in that period of time, that he was no longer as effective. It's simple. I love Fedor. If he fights today, I'll watch and root for him every time. The guy is one of the wonders of the world. He’s not the kind of guy who shows up all the time.”

Finally, DC stated that, in his opinion, Fedor Emelianenko He is the greatest heavyweight of all time. The former two-division Ultimate champion criticized the way athletes are judged in the final stages of their careers.

“I still believe that Fedor is the greatest heavyweight of all time. I love Stipe (Miocic), he's the best UFC heavyweight of all time, but I take my hat off to the wins Fedor had in PRIDE against guys like (Minotauro) Nogueira, Arlovski and everyone else. The fact that he's still fighting at 45 and knocking out guys like he did Tim Johnson. I take my hat off to the GOAT (best of all time). I have no problems with the guy. I was talking about a specific window in which I don't believe he would be as effective as he was in previous years. Does it mean that everything he did in the past is worthless? I hate how people are judged, because when Anderson Silva he was the guy, everyone called him the GOAT, but when he was 41, 42 years old and started losing fights, suddenly he stopped being the GOAT? Are we going to judge him by the end of his career and devalue all the things he did at his peak? It doesn't work like that. We cannot devalue Fedor Emelianenko”, Finished.
