Paulo borrachinha caused great controversy during the week of the fight against Marvin vettori by admitting that he would not be able to reach the limit of the middleweight division (up to 83,9 kg), forcing the fight to be fought at light heavyweight (up to 93 kg).

After the defeat to the Italian, Borrachinha stated that, despite all the confusion, he intends to fight again and go after the middleweight belt before thinking about permanently changing category.
“I could fight at light heavyweight, but I can also fight at middleweight. I think it's better for me to return to my category, the middleweight, go after the belt and then change. I can fight at light heavyweight at any time, but if I can hit 84, why not?” he stated.
Despite his desire to return to fight at middleweight, Borrachinha said he feels healthy in the top division. But, according to the Brazilian, it would be necessary to receive more money from the UFC for the lifestyle change necessary to maintain the new weight to be worth it.
“I feel healthy. The only problem is that I need to diet a lot. I don't like life. Just salad all day. So, it's not fun, it's very stressful. I need to put it on the scale and see if it's worth it. For what they pay me now, I need to think”, said the Brazilian.
Finally, Borrachinha responded to Dana White's comments, who praised his performance, especially in the fifth round, and said he sees him as a light heavyweight.
“That’s a good interpretation on his part. I am happy. I know I could fight really well at light heavyweight. I think I'm 100 or 102 kilos now. I feel good at this weight, I feel fast and able to take hits without falling. Let’s see”, left Borrachinha open.
