Cast in the fight that closed the preliminary card of the UFC Las Vegas 91, Rani Yaya confirmed the negative balance for Brazil in the first stage of the event this Saturday (27), with two stumbles and a victory. As for jiu-jitsu, the athlete got off to a good start against Victor Henry, but succumbed over the last two rounds and ended up being knocked out. The outcome came in the third round.
The result marks Yahya's second consecutive setback. At 39 years old, the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg.) hadn't competed in almost two years.
Victorious in the clash, Victor was patient and adopted a cautious stance throughout the almost three rounds played. The athlete increased his pace in the final stage and managed to return to the path of triumphs.
Bitter defeat
The fight started with Rani throwing a low kick in the opening seconds. The Brazilian surrounded his rival and sought to approach him to apply the takedown. After just over a minute, Yahya managed to hang on to his rival and managed a takedown. Victor managed to stand up and started to press the Tupiniquim against the bars. The fighters then moved away and the challenge was fought again in the center of the octagon. Rani took him down again, but Henry got up again. The stage ended with a frank fight between the athletes.
In the second round, Rani followed the strategy of attacking from long distance and looking for the best moment to close the distance. The Brazilian combined punches, kicks and tried to get a takedown afterwards. Henry showed concentration and avoided his opponent's attempts. Halfway through the stage, Victor began to increase the number of blows applied and began to gain an advantage in striking. Near the final minute, Henry cornered the Brazilian against the bars and launched blunt attacks. Rani showed signs of tiredness and appeared to be accusing her opponent of her attacks. In the final seconds, Yahya went to the canvas after his opponent's attacks. Henry struck, but the timer ran to zero.
The last round started with Rani looking for the takedown early on. Yahya threatened an ankle cave, but Victor defended well. With a minute gone, Victor delivered a direct shot that took the Brazilian to the canvas. Henry began a punishment and Rani tried to defend herself. Victor continued to strike until the referee interrupted the challenge.
