Candidate for a future title fight, Sandhagen ended up walking away from the title after losing a split decision to TJ Dillashaw, in July this season. Before the stumble against the former champion, who returned to MMA after serving a two-year suspension for doping, the American was a standout in the category, with two major victories in a row.

Ultimate has not yet taken a position on the maintenance – or not – of Petr yan on the card. At the UFC 267, the Russian would have the long-awaited rematch with aljamain sterling in the 'settling of accounts' of the controversial fight held in March, when the then champion lost the title due to disqualification (illegal knee).
