While the scenario of the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) unfolds, coach Rafael Cordeiro is keen to 'mark his pupil's territory' Beneil Dariush. The Brazilian coach declared that his student deserves a fight for the category's belt and tried to 'dig' a spot as a 'reserve' for the likely fight between charles do brox e Dustin poirier.

“For everything he has done, I would like to see him in that position. I think we should fight for the belt or fight for the title if someone gives up. It would be stupid to take a step back and fight anyone outside the top-5,” Cordeiro told 'MMA fighting'.
Dariush's coach made a point of remembering his pupil's winning streak and emphasized that he is prepared if he is called up for a title fight.
“We are waiting to see what comes next, but, knowing that the next duel has to be for the belt or at least fighting one more time so that, in case of victory, we can fight for the title. We will be waiting. The organization decides. If a fight happens, he will be ready to fight for the belt immediately”, concluded the Tupiniquim coach.
Third placed in the lightweight rankings, Beneil Darius is in the best phase of his career. The Iranian fighter has won seven consecutive victories and now has a record of 21 wins, four losses and one draw.
