Five reasons to watch UFC 262, with Charles do Bronx fighting for the lightweight belt

The big moment has arrived. Highlight of Ultimate for years, Charles of the BronxFinally, he will compete for the organization's lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). Living the best moment in his career, Do Bronx could make history in the organization. If he overcomes Chandler in the last fight of the night, the Brazilian will take the place left by the legendary Khabib, who retired from the sport undefeated at the end of 2020.

In the co-main fight, another big attraction for spectators. Considered one of the most feared men in lightweight history, Tony Ferguson seeks to recover from two consecutive defeats. To do this, the 'Bicho Papão' must go through the promising Beneil Dariush, which asks for passage in the category.

Still on the main card, three Brazilians will take the yellow-green to the Octagon. Edson Barboza, Viviane Araujo e Rogerio Bontorin Tupiniquins will be the highlights of the stage.

A UFC representative for over 10 years, Do Bronx is close to making history in the organization. After going through ups and downs in the company, the Brazilian found himself and is experiencing a spectacular moment. With eight positive results in a row, the São Paulo native got his passport stamped to compete for the title after a 'walk' in front of Tony Ferguson in December 2020. Against 'Bicho Papão', the Brazilian took no notice of his rival, dominating and winning on points at the time.

Confirmed as one of the protagonists of the show, Do Bronx didn't think twice about accepting the commitment to face Chandler. Against the newcomer in the company, the Brazilian will be able to show, once again, his evolution in the sport and add his 31st positive result in his career.

To take home the belt, Charles must get past the Bellator legend. Hired by Ultimate in the second half of 2020, the former lightweight champion in the competition wants to prove that the investment made by the UFC was worth it.

The organization's bet, the North American debuted on the right foot. In January, the fighter needed less than five minutes to run over the dangerous Dan Hooker. After a devastating knockout, the fighter caught the eyes of the board and, months later, was confirmed as one of the representatives in the fight for the vacant belt by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The meeting between Charles and Chandler will put an end to the hegemony of Khabib Nurmagomedov in the organization. Considered a living legend in the sport, the Russian retired in October last year, after crashing Justin gaethje and unify the title.

Still in the Octagon, after defeating the North American, the 'Eagle' justified his decision to hang up his gloves. According to Khabib, the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov – in July, due to complications from Covid-19 – was decisive in the decision. According to the Russian, it made no sense to continue competing with his main mentor, coach and supporter.

Considered by many to be the best lightweight in history, Khabib left MMA after a perfect career. In 29 commitments, the fighter didn't know what it was like to lose.

The fighter headed the division between 2018 and 2020, making three title defenses.

3) Ferguson and the quest for recovery

One of the most feared names in lightweight history, Tony Ferguson steps into the Octagon this weekend pressured for a good result. Experiencing an unprecedented moment in his career, with two negative results in a row, 'Bicho Papão' needs to win to regain his dream of competing for the group's interim belt.

The fighter, however, will not have an easy life in UFC 262. When the gong sounds, the athlete will face the dangerous Beneil Dariush, which is going through a great moment and is asking for passage towards the top of the category.

To win again, Ferguson must show his entire arsenal against an opponent who has not lost in six matches. Dariush's last setback came in 2018, when he was overtaken by Alexander Hernandez. Since then, the fighter has continued to rise.

Today, Ferguson occupies fifth place in the category. Dreaming of the top, Dariush comes in ninth and could take Tony's place if he beats the 37-year-old veteran.

Former standout in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg.), Ronaldo Jacare 'will fight for job' this weekend. Going through a complicated phase in the organization, the Brazilian needs a positive result to stay alive in the company.

Former Strikeforce champion, Ronaldo has lost four in his last five fights. To add a positive result to his record again, the veteran will have to overcome a Brazilian promise in the organization.

This Saturday, Jacaré will exchange forces with André Sergipano, which has 100% utilization in the company. Revealed by 'Contender Series', the Minas Gerais native is heading to his fourth appointment with UFC gloves. So far, the fighter has two submissions and one victory on points.

5) More Brazil

In addition to Do Bronx, Jacaré and Sergipano, Brazil will have four more representatives from Brazil distributed across the preliminary and main cards.

First Brazilian to climb into the octagon, Priscila Pedrita wants to prove that the difficult start to the organization is behind us. After suffering three consecutive defeats, the Rio native achieved her first triumph against Shana Dobson, in February 2020. Now, the fighter will have a new test against Gina Mazany, in a duel contested at flyweight (up to 56,7kg.).

On the main card, the dangerous Edson Barboza returns to the scene. Now, at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), the Friborg native will have a tough commitment against Shane burgos. Known for his aggressiveness, the Brazilian tries to continue his trajectory towards the top of the division led by Alexander Volkanovsky.

In a great phase in Ultimate, Viviane Araujo could get closer to a title fight, if he overcomes Katlyn chookagian No. UFC 262. Current number seven in the ranking led by the legendary Valentina Shevchenko, the Brazilian will face the number two in the group. If she beats the North American, the athlete from the Federal District will take a leap forward in the division and could win the right to challenge the current champion.

Performing at bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.), Rogerio Bontorin will have a challenge that promises to excite the spectators of the show. Although he is not in the best moment in the organization, with two negative results in a row, the Paraná native will put his techniques into play against Matt schnell. The duel will represent a contest of similar styles, as both are known for their jiu-jitsu skills.
