The injury happened after just 17 seconds. At first, the athletes were studying each other in the center of the octagon, when Weidman risked a low kick, which was promptly saved by his rival. Immediately, it was possible to notice the fracture in the American's right leg, and when he tried to place his foot on the ground, he realized the gravity of the situation and collapsed.
Just over 24 hours after the incident, Chris released a video to update fans on his health condition. In his speech, the veteran revealed that recovery expectations could vary from six to 12 months. Even with the serious injury, Weidman, 37, initially ruled out retirement.
