After the defeat suffered by Kamaru Usman in the welterweight belt dispute (up to 77kg.), Gilbert Durinho He already has a date and opponent for his next challenge. The Brazilian is confirmed in the co-main fight of the UFC 264 and face Stephen Thompson on July 10th. The clash was made official by Ultimate on the organization's social networks.

Standing out in the up to 77kg category, Durinho will be part of a show that has everything to go down in the company's history. The July 10th show will be headlined by the legendary Conor McGregor, which promotes the trilogy in front of Dustin poirier.
Current number two in the ranking led by Kamaru Usman, Gilbert seeks to recover from the setback suffered against the champion himself, in February. At the UFC 258, the Niteroi native had his first opportunity to fight for a title in the organization, but ended up having his dream postponed after being knocked out by the Nigerian.
Just like the Brazilian, Thompson also wants to regain the right to challenge the owner of the throne in the category. The North American challenged for the belt on two occasions (2016-2017), drawing once and losing the other, when the group leader was still Tyron woodley.
While Gilbert will make his second clash in 2021, Stephen will make his debut in the current season. The North American comes on the back of two positive results in a row and hasn't lost since the setback to Anthony PettisIn 2019.
For lovers of mixed martial arts, the challenge between Durinho and Thompson is a great treat. While the Brazilian is an expert in jiu-jitsu, the North American is known for his excellent karate.
