Anderson Silva should face Chris Weidman in July

the american Chris Weidman seems to be close to getting his long-awaited chance to compete for the middleweight belt against Anderson Silva. UFC president, Dana White, stated that the organization's intention is to promote the fight at an event held on the Saturday after the 4th of July holiday in the United States, one of the most important dates in the country.

The information, published this Thursday (21) on the magazine's portal tatami, were confirmed by the director during an interview. “That's what we want, but no, we don't have that yet. We are talking (with Anderson Silva). It’s not fixed yet, but we’re going to get it right,” White said.

For a few months now, Weidman has been vying for the next challenger for the middleweight belt. In addition to having a record of nine wins and no defeats in his career, the American has seen the other competitors for the position fall one by one.

If the event is confirmed to take place on July 6th, Anderson would once again put his belt on the line a year after his last defense – against Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, on July 7 last year. After that, Spider also had a valid fight in the light heavyweight category, against the North American Stephan bonnar, in Rio de Janeiro, in October.
