Dominated by Shevchenko, Jéssica Bate-Estaca speaks out after defeat at UFC 261

Knocked out by the flyweight champion over the weekend, Brazilian shows optimism with continuing her career

The dominant defeat suffered by Valentina Shevchenko No. UFC 261 appears not to have shaken the confidence of Jessica Andrade, Bate-Estaca. After having her dream of winning her second belt in her career in Ultimate postponed, the Paraná native used social media to speak out. Showing optimism, the Brazilian promised new achievements in the future.

“Only those who fight lose. It wasn't our day. We move on. Thank you for all the affection I have received. (…) Thank you to everyone who contributed to my camp (training period). We remain strong. Better days will come”, wrote the woman from Paraná, in her profile on Instagram.

Considered by many as the only athlete who could be capable of ending Shevchenko's hegemony in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg), Bate-Estaca ended up becoming another of the Kyrgyzstani's victims. As an inspired champion, Jéssica managed to produce little and, after being dominated in the first stage, she succumbed with a knockout in the second round.

This weekend, Andrade could join the select group of fighters who have won two titles in different divisions. Former strawweight champion (up to 52,1kg), the Paraná native debuted in the up to 56,7kg group. in 2020, when she surprised and ran over Katlyn chookagian in the first round, earning the chance to challenge Shevchenko.

Absolute in the division, Valentina reached her fifth belt defense. Since she debuted in the group in 2018, the Kyrgyzstani has competed in seven fights and doesn't know what it's like to lose.
