“It’s the biggest victory of my career, as he’s a former champion. It's not often that we face someone who dominated the category for a long time. (…) I was already prepared for the start. Right at the beginning, I tried to throw a meeting elbow. I was already prepared for him to be very aggressive. But even so, it was a surprise, because when he clinched, I felt like he was wasting all the energy he had”, he highlighted.
During the fight, the Brazilian also said that he was able to observe that the North American had felt the blows while standing. Therefore, he also highlighted the intelligence of identifying that Woodley would have some difficulty defending his actions, in addition to noting the need to seek the submission instead of the knockout.
“I expected that he would try to put me down and strike more conservatively. He was throwing strikes with everything and ended up opening gaps for a counterattack. I try to see a loophole.
